Her mother taught school in Denver for 33 years and her father worked for the government.She was taught to paint and draw by her father who was an artist commissioned by churches to do oil paintings and who was also a cartoonist for a local newspaper. Candice played concert piano at age 16, and later attended the University of Southern Colorado as a music major. Soon after, she became a rock performer, filling in with different acts that came to town. This helped pay for college.
