About the Artist
Katy Jones
Residence:  Manchester,  Lancashire, UK

Katy Jones was born in 1977 and lives in the UK, where she works as an artist and writer. Much of her artistic inspiration is drawn from literary sources, such as Shakespeare, the Bible and various legends and mythologies. Other influences include gothic architecture and celtic design, as well as the work of Brian Froud, Alan Lee, John Howe, Evelyn de Morgan, Cicely M. Barker and Alfons Mucha. She usually works in acrylics, but also enjoys experimenting with other media. About her work, Katy says: “I often describe myself as a fantasy artist, which isn't meant to suggest that my work is escapist. I usually paint imaginary creatures, but I want to encourage a thoughtful engagement with reality. The images are meant to make people think, sometimes about the symbolism of different elements, sometimes to present an old story in a new light, or perhaps to challenge the way they see women, or to prompt them to wonder about God.”
