Kumiko McKee
Kumiko McKee was born in Japan and has moved to the United States in 1994. She has a BFA degree in painting from the University of Wyoming (USA) and while she was a student, she received the Robert D. Coe Fine Arts Scholarship and was granted membership to the Golden Key National Honor Society. Also, she recived First Place Award twice for the second consecutive year and the A&S Dean's Award for the Annual Juried Student Exhibition at the University of Wyoming Art Museum.
She learned basic technique and knowledge of art from the Private High School of Koriyama Girls College where she graduated with a fine art major. She worked as designer focusing on display design for major department stores in Tokyo. Here she learned valuable skills for creating display designs in show windows for department stores in Tokyo. Some of the displays included designs for products from "Yves Saint Laurent", "Sonia Rykiel", "Jean Paul Gaultter", "Ferre", "Luciano Soprani", "Paco Rabanne", "Persol" and "Fiorucci".
Before she moved to U.S., she traveled in England, Ireland, France, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, West and East Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Egypt, Israel, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal for 15 months. It was an invaluable opportunity for her to learn local cultures and the arts of the world.
Today, she lives in Colorado and is working on series of paintings that mix Japanese culture with western techniques as a professional artist and still exploring other countries on her vacations to see their culture and art.
