Sally Ginkel enjoys painting animals or scenes she is familiar with. She uses her own photos to create her work. The two paintings of the deer, were inspired by a fawn she had for about 5 days before she found a rehab center that would take care of him and get him back into the woods.
You may find her at the Kinzua Studios, Bradford, PA.
Sally's home and studio are located in northwestern Pennsylvania, in the heart of the Allegheny National Forest, near Kinzua Dam.
As a child drawing and painting horses was a favorite pastime and animals are still her favorite subject matter. The majority of her commission work is of domestic animals and equine portraiture and usually completed in acrylics, colored pencil or pastel.
After completing a home study course in commercial art and design through Famous Artists Schools, she continued her education majoring in Fine Art at Edinboro University, Edinboro, Pennsylvania. She graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 1992. After a period of time in the custom framing business she now devotes all her time to her art.
Her work is exhibited and sold thru various galleries in Pennsylvania. Showings at fairs and art organizations have consistently brought Best of Show and First Place awards. Both of her Labrador Retriever prints have been featured as cover art on the international magazine The Labrador Quarterly and her entry titled "Morgans Can Do It All", depicting the versatility of the Morgan horse took first place in American Morgan Horse Association 2000 Art and Photo Contest.
She is a member of The Colored Pencil Society of America, The Fund for Animals, The World Society for Protection of Animals, and The Animal Legan Defense Fund.
